Writing Down Your Goal

Let me share something with you today that is somewhat easy to do, and at the same time, has a payoff that can be worth more than you might imagine. It’s an almost foolproof way to always keep your goal in front of you. It’s a method that is nearly guaranteed to keep you focused and on track towards achieving your goal.

It really is as simple as writing down your goal. There is more to it than that alone, but that’s exactly where you want to begin.

Grab a small index card and write down your specific goal. This goal could be a debt that you are focused on paying off. It could be harmonious time with your family. It could be an amount of money that you would like to earn to make your life easier. The idea here is to write down this goal as a small sentence on this card so that you are able to easily refer to it anytime you wish.

The next step after writing down your goal is to keep it where it’s easily accessible. You might want to tuck it away in your wallet or purse or keep it in a desk drawer where you spend most of your day. You don’t have to show your goal to anyone, but you will need to be able to easily access your card with the goal written on it periodically throughout the day in order to keep it front of mind.

With your goal written down and in front of you, you will start each day reading your goal to yourself. Envision that you will succeed with this goal with a positive and calm outlook. Don’t concern yourself just yet with how you will achieve this goal.

The idea here is to keep this goal in mind so that you can work towards finding ways of achieving it throughout any given day. Starting your day with your goal will give you something to work towards. You’ll know what your focus is to be for the day and why.

Refer to this card with your goal written out throughout the day. Use your mind and your imagination to approach how to achieve your goal from every angle.

Your mind is an amazing instrument, but you must put it to use. The best way to do this is to avoid the distractions of the day and instead spend your time focusing on what it is that you’d like to accomplish.

The goal that you have written on this card and referring to this goal throughout the day will help you to avoid the distractions that will surely be present. Sometimes it’s the distractions that throw us off of our game, and having a plan to cut them off at the pass will help to continue to place focus where it needs to be placed.

You’ll continue this for 30 days. It’s been said that it takes approximately 27 days to form a new habit, so we’ll stretch this out just a bit to an even number. During this 30 days, you want to make sure that you aren’t taking a break from your goal. Continue to refer to your index card and continue to use your mind and imagination to come up with ways to achieve your goal.

You may not achieve your goal in 30 days, but you will have a definiteness of purpose from this exercise. If you need to continue to focus on your goal for the next 30 days, go ahead and do so. The same is true with the next 30 days. The point here is that you are keeping yourself on task and focused, and when you do this, your chances of achieving the goal increase a thousandfold.
